We are going to shake things up a bit this month..

Version: 3.13

The map is Standard with 6 civs total.

Your Civ is Spain... Your Leader (unrestricted) is:

Settings:

Your Start Position:

[red]SPECIAL VICTORY CONDITIONS[/red]

All Victories have been enabled for this game, but [b]NONE[/b] of them will be accepted.

This is a Terra map, meaning that all civs (Human and AI) start in one area, leaving a whole other "New World" open to barbarians until it is settled by the civs from the "Old World".

To achieve victory in this game, you must colonize the New World.

There are a few different conditions, so take note...

[red]The winner of the game will be the player with the highest population in the New World at the end of your turn in 1850AD[/red] [b]while also meeting the following conditions: [/b]

A: You must not have a negative cash flow with at least 60% of your economy allocated between any combination of research, culture, or espionage. You may not "build" gold/cash in any city build menu to help break even. Also, you must not have more than one merchant specialist in any city.

B: You cannot allow one of your cities in the Old World (or New for that matter) to be taken by either an AI civ or Barbarians. Cities that you conquer yourself also count against this.. You must hold any conquered city.

C: You must not trigger another victory condition before 1850.

If you do not meet the above criteria, your save will be disqualified.

Now, to determine the population of your cities in the New World, open the city screen and hold the cursor over the city name in the top middle of the screen:

The population will show... Add the population in all your New World cities for your score.

How's that for a change of pace?

When you get to 1850AD, add you population in the New World and post it in the GOTM thread and then Email your final save (1850AD) to me. Saves should be named as follows: [username]June08BTS.CivBeyondSwordSave

The Email address to send the GOTM is my username @1bcciv.com ... This makes it easier to determine how everyone stands and what the current standard is scorewise if I get held up in the verification of save files. Thanks.

What are the rules?
The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly.

This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
Reloading an earlier save-file and replaying turns in a different way. The only time you may reload a save file is to start a new play session, and you must use the save file from the end of your previous session.

Also, if in doubt, ask. If you think you have found a new loop-hole or exploit, then we strongly suggest that you ask as to its legallity before you use it. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.

Sign Up for GOTM updates

Greetings all,
Anyone who wishes to receive updates about CivIV GOTMs, please post in this thread.

These updates will include pm's when the new GOTM begins and the announcement of the GOTM champ, and so forth.

All of this info will still be posted, but with a pm, you will know right away when the new GOTM is underway.

So, post here and I'll add you to the list.

May 2008 CivIV BTS Game of the Month

[b]Game Closed:[/b]
[b]Champion:[/b] Konrad von Richtmark - Score: 28,443 Victory: Diplomatic in 1865

Nuclearcow - Score: 17,564 Victory: Cultural in 1932

Dueck - Score: 13,702 Victory: Space Race in 1979

Greetings all... Quite a few people still struggle with that level, so they'll have a hard time winning the game, let alone the GOTM. Those that win regularly on monarch or emperor are just going through the motions, trying to win as quickly as possible. Why not *hamper* these players? Why not say, in this game YOU can build NO cottages, or NO wonders, or you cannot use slavery, or found/ spread religions. Plenty of options to keep things interesting, and make the playing field a bit more level.

Let's say mongoose uploads a noble game. Now prince players can be asked not to build cottages, wonders, etc. Monarch/ emperor players would need even further hampering: In this game you cannot build workers, or settlers, or use ANY civics.

I would be thrilled to play weird games like that, as they'd push me to adapt, and try out new stuff. It was fairly simple in the beginning when there weren't any multiple GOTM champions, but lately, with more games under our belt and several multiple winners, it becomes obvious to me (the one that's working to make all these things come together;)) that we need a simpler system in place.

So... I am asking for your input on the following: We will go to a GOTM ranking system where you are ranked based on the number of GOTM's in which you have been the Champion. All GOTM (CivIII, Warlords, BTS) championships will be added together and you will receive a rank (and graphic insignia in place of the current ones) according to the number.

Now, we need to decide what names for the ranks. The two best possibilities would be either military ranks or the CivIV Difficulty Levels:

Victories

1 or 2: Settler/Corporal

3: Chieftain/Sergeant

4: Warlord/Sergeant Major

5: Noble/Lieutenant

6: Prince/Captain

7: Monarch/Major

8: Emperor/LieutenantColonel

9: Immortal/Colonel

10: Diety/BrigadierGeneral

11: SidMeier(added)/Major General

That should give you an idea. What do you guys think... and which would you choose, military or difficulty levels?

Dec. 07 GOTM - Beyond the Sword

Champion: [b]Nuclearcow[/b]

Greetings all.. this game for the Beyond the Sword CivIV expansion...

Version: 3.13

Standard Size map with 7 Rivals

Note: This is an unrestricted leaders game... I had mastered Monarch to the extent where I won almost every game, but was getting repeatedly pummeled on Emperor to the extent where the game just weighed down on me. I even got so tired of being pummelled that I had to put Civ4 on the shelf for a while and check out Halo for some variety :w00t:

There's no question whether I'm able to win a Prince level game, but it doesn't matter, since I'm competing against humans. Now, even when a game has come to the point where there's no question of whether I will win, it doesn't devolve into a tiresome slugging match of how-many-enemies-will-I-still-have-to-conquer, but into a frantic race to win as quickly as possible, knowing that each turn counts.

Now, if you excuse me, I have a Viking Empire to lead to world conquest :)

Unofficial GOTM

Ah, I almost forgot about this after an MSN chat with Mongoose a while back...
Since this game is no longer being played, the saved game may now be downloaded and played by anyone who is still interested. Random Civ, India/Asoka generated.

[spoiler]The year is 4000 BC. You are coastal people looking to settle down, in shall we say, a crowded world. I played this game up until around 400 AD or so, before I succumbed. Let me just say it is a warmongers delight, although the difficulty level may be a bit challenging for many. This also secured me my best Warlords score so far at about 4400.......feel free to laugh now.

Then I look at the October GOTM scores and see Zone's score of 13000 !!!! :w00t:
I know you guys play a lot and I envy you your insight in the game...but seriously...Why are you SOOOO much better ? :P
Is it all down to extreme micro management?
Is there an evil building that I've misunderstood?
Did I miss a patch that doubles scores? :D

Sorry, this might be more of a general question and the admin should feel free to move it, but it does concern the GOTM score ;)

Thanks,

Strangelove

October 06 GOTM

I know some of you want to give it a go. If you are not sure how to accomplish this or how to unzip the start save, please post here and someone will help you. :)

August 2006 GOTM

GOTM Closed: Champion: [red]Ness[/red] Victory: [blue]Cultural[/blue] Normalized Score: [red]9477 - 1975AD[/red]

Greetings all, Here we go:

Version: 1.61

Civ: Egypt with 5 rival civs

Difficulty: Warlord

Settings:

[b]Permanent Alliances Allowed - Modified Assets Locked[/b]

High Growth Start, it would seem:

[red]Special Victory Conditions[/red]

All Victory Conditions have been allowed, but only 3 Victory Conditions will be accepted: [red]Space Race, Cultural, and Diplomatic[/red]

Go to war if you wish, but don't loose track or you may attain domination.

Highest Normalized Score in any of the three approved conditions will be declared GOTM champion.

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. Saves should be named as follows: [username]August06GOTM.Civ4SavedGame .

Good Luck

Note: If you have problems with the downloaded file and you used Firefox or another browser other than IE, then try using IE or a compatible browser to download. The June GOTM is here a few days early for your enjoyment.

Those of you old timers will get a kick out of the Leadername.

Settings: Version 1.61

Difficulty: Noble Civ: Russia (Philosophical, Expansive)

Map: Islands Size: Small

Climate: Temperate Sea: Medium

Era: Ancient Speed: Normal

Random Large and Tiny Islands

Modified Assets Locked All Victories Enabled Except Time

----

To make things a bit easy going in this first month of GOTM's, we'll just shoot for the highest score regardless of victory condition. In future months we may go by earliest victory or perhaps only enable one victory condition.

When you complete the game, please post your final save. You may also of course provide a screenshot of your triumph. I have enabled the ".civ4savedgame" attachment, but I would prefer that you zip the files that you upload if you have the knowledge/capability. At the conclusion of the GOTM, all save files will be deleted from the thread, leaving only the original save and the member screenshots.

All submissions must be posted by June 26th. The Champion will have the honor of the next months GOTM leadername, GOTM Champion medal graphics that are currently in design which will replace the "member level image" below your avatar, and perhaps something else I have up my sleeve.

By Downloading the file, you pledge to refrain from any nefarious activities which would be considered cheating such as reloading a previous save to correct a mistake or gain any advantage from knowlegde gained before the reload.

Question...

Well, I decided to give this one a go as my first GOTM ever, and I've arrived at 2000 AD.
