I only lost 2 units before deciding to move onto the other city. I took this one with only one loss. I now have a large army on the other continent. I used by Great Artist to boost culture, and with the revolution gone too, I started work on a theatre. I will ruch the Globe as soon as possible to get more culture going. I also nuked about 6 large cities to delay the Aztecs from an all out attack straight away. Either they will delay to get all units healthy again - by which time my culture should have kicked in and I'll have time to bomb and retaliate before they can get to my city, or they'll attack in dribs and drabs - easy to pick off.

It's 2081...

RE: February 2007 CivIV (Vanilla) GOTM

Finally wiped out the Persians in 2061. Global warming is striking every so often. I have decided where I'm going to launch my invasion on the other continent, but am currently busy clearing the seas of Aztec Battleships and building up a force big enough to take the city and then hold it. I have a Great Engineer ready to build the Globe Theatre, and I'm preparing for a Great Artist as my next GL to boost the culture in the city I take so that I don't have to wait for the revolution to finish, and I get some breathing room rather than have all the Aztecs forces able to attack me in one go. I have a bit of an advantage in that I have some SERIOUSLY veteran units and they haven't had a war in ages, so shouldn't have anything with more than 3 promotions. I have hoarded quite a few ICBM's and have a 50odd strong Stealth Bomber force. I WILL win this game :P

RE: February 2007 CivIV (Vanilla) GOTM

I haven't forgotten about this... I have Persia down to 4 cities, so I should be rolling over them soonish, but it's tough going. I put a city pretty much in that bottleneck, so I'm safe enough, but it's just tough going. I didn't concentrate much on my navy, but I'm going to have to soon to launch a massive offensive against the Aztecs. The way I'm defending against invasions at the moment, is to have one city pouring out ICBM's. I have Jets on each side of the continent, having a peak over the oceans each turn. If I spot a big convoy of transports etc, I wait for them to get in range of my stealth bombers, take them down to 2/3 health, then drop ICBM's on them until I get a successful hit. Only one destroyer has survived that method so far ;)

The persians tried to put a boat on the oil in the South, but I've had a sub sitting under the ice (I Love that you can do that :D ) and mucnhed it before it could form a rig.

I have a spy wandering round the other continent to scope out the best invasion point. All this was before Domination kicked in (67% of land, last time I looked), so I actually have a much-coveted Conquest win!

2050 AD - Augustus Caesar

It sounds like you're having a much harder game, Zone. I blocked the bottleneck on the starter continent with MechInfs and kept it blocked until I was through with Persia. Without Oil and Aluminum they were not well off... I also lined up enough ships along my coast to catch all incoming Transports. Weren't too many of those, but I guess the onslaught after I landed explains why that was... I played some this weekend though, and Montezuma is broken, his empire reduced to three cities that will rapidly fall before the unstoppable horde of ModArms and Gunships. Spain is pesky but sending everything it's got in little batches, tailormade for slaughter. Victory is sweet. Victory hurts too, man, I hate to diss the best civ ever, but it just plain sucks that I cannot see ALL my units that are in a tile. Show them as unit types instead of individual little units. Having to click through 60 planes to get to the land units is no good... I was confident I had troops aplenty so I wasn't satisfied to sit the first rush out, oh no, I just had to send a good stack over to take the second town... There was a bloody massacre, and a lot of my veterans perished. Then the onslaught came to my tiny toehold town, and I could barely move enough troops overseas to withstand the pressure. At one point I had one badly battered ModArm and two Artillery holding the fort... Luckily I have plenty of cities that crank out a unit a turn. I *think* the evil empires have expended their reserves and will send small raiding bands from now on, but man, did this suck in all the wrong places...

I think I'm going to be hard-pressed to finish this one in time. Those are the only victory conditions that have been enabled.

The Highest Normalized Score in either of those two victory conditions will be named February GOTM Champion.

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then PM your final save (hopefully one just before victory) to me. Saves should be named as follows: [username]FEB2007GOTM.Civ4SavedGame.

[red]Good Luck, the savefile is attached below. Please note the 1760AD Starting year has no bearing as only military victories are allowed. Also, due to the nature of this GOTM, where all of the map/resources are visible, I'll be a participant in this game, as is the games submitter, Zigeuner.[/red]

What are the rules?
The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly.

This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
Reloading an earlier save-file and replaying turns in a different way. The only time you may reload a save file is to start a new play session, and you must use the save file from the end of your previous session.

Also, if in doubt, ask. If you think you have found a new loop-hole or exploit, then we strongly suggest that you ask as to its legallity before you use it. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.
