I'm currently plowing through the western neighbor (the one you have to get to by going through that small sliver of land) with my capital pumping out a granadier every two turns and I'm going to push him to the sea.  He can keep the islands for now.  I'm finally approaching the neighbor to my east in the amount of cities.  I thought I was already ahead of him until I got an updated world map.  Crap, how did he get so big.  This is going to be one heck of an epic battle if a domination victory is desired.  I think both of the western powers need to be conquered in order to keep up with him for a war.  May not be the way to go for me this time.  We'll see.  I'm finally getting the warmongering thing.  It's not so hard actually

Holy cow, how do you get 5 Cities by 450 BC ans still have the science to stay in the game? I'm doing something terribly wrong... [Pinch]
Heh, I just started playing Civ4, so I'm mostly still in Civ3 mode, just seeing how much I can get away with. Doesn't seem too bad. Cottages, rivers, Libraries, Monasteries, they all work well together...

I'm actually holding off on building a sixth city further south. There's too much jungle there, and it's too far away. I like it better to send an army over to the southwestern guy and take cities closer to home. Peace is nice, but space is nicer...

At this point, it's too late for me to plow through anyone, I think.  The added problem is that the other three all like each other very well, meaning I'll get a diplo hit.

I'm going for Culture in this one, though I fear I won't get the high points score because of that...

I got off to a good start on this one. Got my manuscript done, so as a warmup for the four or five days I'll be caving, I figurted I'd have a nice Warlord's binge session. I made it up to about 1900. Little behind in Techs, but biggest civ by pop and size (~40% and 55% or thereabouts). I've taken away all but 3 of the SW neighbors land. I waged war on the NW neighbor briefly just to pillage, and have had two protracted wars with the Eastern neighbor. Current Zulu have a crap load of stuff. I've got more cities than any one else, a lion share of wonders, and getting up to having forge library, courthouse, etc. in every single city. I'm forging ahead into tanks before I make any more warfare, but I gotta use my four star cavalry to get a Warlord!

I had a super massive war which got me all cities on the west side of the continent.  The have been reduced to islands states which I can't bother to deal with.  I actually got 2 Warlords out of the affair though I lost one of them.  My easterly neighbor is so ahead of me in techs it's rediculous.  I realized that he made the far east guy a vassal state.  I wish I had thought of that with my western foes.  He is kicking my butt and I don't know how to stop him.  His military is much more advanced than mine so I don't dare attack him.  In hindsight, I should have gone to war with him very early.  There was a point when I made a decision to fight against him or against the SW guy and I chose the SW guy.  Man what a mistake that was.  I'm hoping to build up my science spending but I doubt I can keep up as long as he's got that vassal.

I'm taking a slightly different route, which is not going to win me the GOTM, but I'm expecting to win the game. 2 of the civs are rather larger than me, but I got all but one religion and am going for a more peaceful approach. I'm up there in techs, and have an up-to-date enough defensive force, although I have not yet been in a single conflict, even barb units (except for a couple of animals which killed my scout. I only built my first military unit of the game in 600BC!!! I got Stonehenge, Great wall and a few other Wonders. I've got 4 cities and am merrily trying to spread Hinduism everywhere. I'm probably going to tray and take out the Korean citie on the mainland as they don't have much. After that... we'll see.

Heh, I think Rish is on to something with his little Axemen rush... I, too, waited a bit too long and now stare a very big eastern neighbor in the face. I'm still running a fat tech ahead though, so I may be able to squeeze in a devastating blow against his monstrous capital (couple of turns after bribing him to attack the Koreans). It's tempting to go where jerm went, just to try and catch up, but I'm hoping I'll be able to upgrade a fair number of Knights to Cavalry, Trebuchet his capital to pieces and raze it if necessary, sprinkle salt on top.

Some odd stuff: Zulus are researching cultural things and refuse to trade any of it, no matter what. They're my best buddies otherwise, share my state religion, but they don't seem to be trading techs with anyone. What's up with that?

Turks plopped a city just outside my border and had an artist paint something very pretty. Ouch... Took away my Clams so my city is more or less crippled.

I can't remember Civ3 ever being this complex, challenging and fun all at once and on such a modest difficulty level (if I may say so)...
