Greetings all,

The current system of graphics used for the GOTM champs has worked rather well so far, but I get the impression that it has just about run its course. It was fairly simple in the beginning when there weren't any multiple GOTM champions, but lately, with more games under our belt and several multiple winners, it becomes obvious to me (the one that's working to make all these things come together) that we need a simpler system in place.

So... I am asking for your input on the following: We will go to a GOTM ranking system where you are ranked based on the number of GOTM's in which you have been the Champion. All GOTM (CivIII, Warlords, BTS) championships will be added together and you will receive a rank (and graphic insignia in place of the current ones) according to the number.

Now, we need to decide what names for the ranks. The two best possibilities would be either military ranks or the CivIV Difficulty Levels:

Victories

1 or 2:  Settler/Corporal

3: Chieftain/Sergeant

4: Warlord/Sergeant Major

5: Noble/Lieutenant

6: Prince/Captain

7: Monarch/Major

8: Emperor/LieutenantColonel

9: Immortal/Colonel

10: Diety/BrigadierGeneral

11: SidMeier(added)/Major General

That should give you an idea. What do you guys think... and which would you choose, military or difficulty levels?

I like the civ themed names

Does that mean I can only get ranked if I ever win a Civ4 GotM?

So I would go from a "Game of the Month Champion"...to a...Settler....doesn't have quite the same ring to it, does it?

just kidding, sounds like a good plan, as long as I still get one of those nifty graphics to go below my name

Each rank would have its own graphic... and to no longer be a settler, you would have to play more GOTMs (and win)

Does that mean I can only get ranked if I ever win a Civ4 GotM?

The CivIII GOTMs will be included in the total.

The only issue with those ranks is both of those types are used for 'board' ranks.  We have a mix of military and civ ranks as is...

I like the idea though.  And it would get more participation in Games of the Month, I'd wager.  People love having little thingies like that.

I'd recommend having a little rank symbol too...

So however you do it...assuming like the current bars...a  little two-stripe symbol...the title...and whatever else

^

^..........GotM..........corporal

Like that maybe

And if you do Civ ranks, do it different than stripes...say a wagon from Civ 1 for the 'settler' symbol...anyway, sounds good.  As that I never win G'sotM, whichever rank scheme you like is fine by me

Military, and as Leo suggested, a rank symbol.

I have another suggestion.  I believe this might encourage further participation in the game, but Mongoose, this might be more work for you, so maybe you won't like it.  hehe

1st for the winners, maybe a 1 star general patch to denote a 1 time winner.  2 stars for 2, 3 for 3, and up to you whether you want 4 as the top as 4 stars are probably most often associated in people's mind as the top, even though there were a few 5 star generals, at least in US history.

Anyways, the winner could be called anything, but as my other suggestion, what about something to denote the guys who have high scores, but NOT quite win it.. like say another patch/rank (whatever you call it) like Colonel, Major or something around there, for "top 3 finish" in GOTM.  I would suggest this is a one month award and would go away when the next GOTM starts.  So, last month on the BTS GOTM for example, rngdvo played a great game and had a very high score, but barely got beaten out.  I think it'd be cool for him to have for a month something like a silver oak leaf like award on his profile for the next month that says something like "Colonel - top 3 GOTM finish" or SOMETHING like that.  Maybe it's silly, but a medal for a month might encourage more players and maybe might get people who surf the board to see that on his postings and maybe it'll make them wonder what it is and gain interest that way.  But, only as a temporary award as the 1 star - 5 (or 4 as preference) winner would remain forever unless upgraded with another win and star.

Thoughts?

Or, perhaps, a GOTM page listing the winners in order, along with a points-based system which could be displayed as a badge denoting rank, as Mongoose suggested. It wouldn't be hard to create a page and badge with listings for each GOTM and cumulative rankings.

Hm, I won a civ3 GOTM or two in my time... never got those medals kring was always talking about... As to the details, just make sure nothing clashes with my tan, and you won't get complaints from me.
