In a recent game I noticed something for the first time!  Jerm, did you by any chance build the Great Wall?  The Great Wall now gives you +2 Great Spy points instead of the +1 Great Engineer in Vanilla and Warlords!

I think I know why .

I still don't get it.....lol

Yeah, but that doesn't explain why the chances for a Great Engineer was like 70% and I was still getting GS's.  ...and I think I had the Pyramids as well.  Anyway, I don't think I'm going to finish.

Wow.

Cultural loss...those don't happen often. Ramesses and his dang Russians at about 1970ish.

Final score 4523! Woot go me!

I went all medieval on my neighbors...wiped 'em out...settled the continent and by the time I had boats that could cross to the mainland, they had gunpowder troops and I didn't...by the time I had gunpowder troops, they had infantry and artillery.

Even TRYING to be a warmonger...FAIL

*grumble*

I know how you feel, but I didn't let that hinder me. When I built up for the invasion of Egypt, they had grenadiers and cuirassiers against my early Renaissance pike-and-shot army. So I built loads and loads of pikemen with formation and musketmen with pinch while beelining for Steel to get cannons, my best chance of getting a unit capable of hurting them. In the end, I was able to put Egypt under the iron boot, but the pikemen and musketmen died in droves just to keep the enemy off my cannons so they could deliver their collateral damage. It was an exercise in sheer masochism, but having conquered all of my starting continent, my military industry of national socialist proportions made me prevail in the end.

Any fool knows the importance of keeping up in military tech. Those who really know how to play this game don't play in terms of "need to do X or be screwed", but adapt.

We have advanced into the 19th century and for the first time I am on top of the leader board. I am getting a bit worried my technical progress, I am getting a bit behind now beause of all the war. I am pleased to see Thebes is now a part of my empire. They stacked up 3 priest and a general in there: thank you! The red dudes seem to go for a cultural victory so now I have to deal with 2 civs and the end of the month dead line.

The year 1894: Egypt and Otto are now my vassals. The war has been bloody. Especially the Ottomans were hard to conquer but Istanbul is mine now. Just finished researching industrialism and I am about to start building tanks.

Considering that it got posted a week into October, I'd say you have some time left Bolan. (I just hope this month's game won't have to wait for ya...)

It is 1.11 now and I could legitimately claim victory, but I'm fine with letting Bolan finish his game, in case he's fine with letting everyone else start on the November GotM in the meantime.

You guys don't have to wait for me. I am planning to finish the game anyway this weekend and I hope to see my first Civ4 agressive victory ever.

mongoose, any idea on when you will be launching the November GotM? I'd want to know whether I should start a new Civ4 game or delay it until the next GotM is up.
