Game Closed

Champion: Nuclearcow

Without scrolling back, I *think* I had the high score for December.  Can I claim spoils of the victor and create January's?

If thats okay, then I created one.  Sean of 1BC (looks conspicuously like Asoak of India )

Settings:
Prince difficulty
Terra
Huge
Temperate
Medium sea-level
Epic speed

Advanced starting ON
NO tech trading (zero)
Permenant Alliances on

IF you drop a city on that little red circle for recommended location, it would be here (see below).  Please note the decent city location of food and hills.

We haven't had an advanced starting point game in a while.  I prefer marathon games, but I went between the typical setting and my favorite and came up with Epic speed.  ALL victory conditions are on.  The winner of the game will be based on score.

Highest Normalized Score in any Victory Condition will be declared BTS GOTM Champion for January.

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then Email your final save (hopefully one just before victory) to me. Saves should be named as follows: [username]Jan07BTS.CivBeyondSwordSave

The Email address to send the GOTM is my username @1bcciv.com ... Of course, instead of "my username" of course I mean the name I post with here at 1bc.

Everyone please follow the instructions above: Post your score screenshot here in this thread and email the save to me. This makes it easier to determine how everyone stands and what the current standard is scorewise if I get held up in the verification of save files. Thanks.

What are the rules?
The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly.

This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

  1. Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
  2. Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
  3. Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
  4. Reloading an earlier save-file and replaying turns in a different way. The only time you may reload a save file is to start a new play session, and you must use the save file from the end of your previous session.

Also, if in doubt, ask. If you think you have found a new loop-hole or exploit, then we strongly suggest that you ask as to its legallity before you use it. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.

Good Luck all...

No GOTM for me this month since my system cannot handle huge maps. At least not in the modern time.

Well you can try that exercise in masochism I put up if you want...you're better than I so you might pull it off.

By the way, I think we agreed that this one will end on Valentine's Day (2/14)

Sorry Bolan. :-\

Huge maps and maybe not working on some's PC didn't cross my mind when I made it.

Maybe you can win before the modern era?

So I'm working on alphabet and wondering why no one's offering trades...

...then I look at the starting conditions

*ahem* NO TECH TRADING at all...that might change some strategies.  For instance...you better head for catapults asap...they'll come knocking with tons if you don't.

Hey, uh, Nuke...you ever run a No Tech Trading game before?

Just wondered...it appears that that means "ZOMG teh AI is a big Meanie!"  I've been frantically cranking out troops...I have 9 cities and at all times 4 are making nothing but units.  It's BARELY enough.  The French (may rabid stoats infest their loincloths) attacked me first and the Aztec (may boiling molasses be poured on their harbles) followed two turns after the first one stopped.

I started off trying to build too many wonders in my capital before expanding. I got the Pyramids, The Great Wall and the Oracle before making any settlers. It was a risky move and so far, I'd say it was a poor move. I have 4 cities and am fighting 3 civs. I have decent defenses now, but lost a city already. I and am about 15 turns away from having War Elephants, so the tides could turn. I may have bitten off more than I can chew though with 3 civs (they attacked me).

Does the AI really become more aggressive on no-tech trading options, or is this just coincidence? hehe.

I won't have access to my PC until Thursday or Friday though.

Well, I'm only operating on two games...this one and another one I started...but it really seems to me that they do.  It makes sense.  If you can only steal and research techs, you need more money.  Only way to easily get more money for the long haul is to have cities, so the AI attacks.

I've built three Wonders:  Stonehenge, Statue of Zeus and the Parthenon.  I have iron, copper and horses so I'm counting myself lucky.  The French expanded around me all borg-like and the Byzantines are currently removing many of their satellite cities, letting me trade blue for black borders...and oh yes, the Aztecs...lovely neighbors.  I have roughly one spear, two axe, one archer, one chariot, one horse archer and am building 1 catapult for each city currently.  I still don't feel safe enough.  Oh and sword production will start momentarily.  It was a long, long road to iron working.  Now it's the really long road to Code of Laws, which we desperately need since I'm only at a sustainable 20/20 tech/espionage.
