Wish I could play. But since I've actually loaded Mods! (perish the thought!) onto my machine, the fantastic "protect assets" function in this wonderful game won't let me load the frickin' save files . . . grumble grumble grumble

Couldn't we switch to using the Civ Fanatics HOF Mod for our GOTMs?

Garrison AND Zone!? Its like a family reunion around here.

This one looks fun. With all that room, I'm gonna try my darndest to construct the Great Wall [Wink]

That sounds like a good plan if there's a lot of room. Those barbs could be nasty.

I should start this game this weekend.

It'll be nice to play a GOTM with a leader who matches his historical country. The mixed leader/civ option is kinda fun to play with, but sometimes I find it confusing. Like trying to remember which color civilization Ragnar of the French is. What the?

Tis true. I was away for an age, then returned, then had account issue's and lurked for a while. Thankfully, 'Goose sorted me out and here I am

Garrison, with that avatar, you are a perfect match for team Omega .

I played this one but lost a boredom defeat.  First of all, it's not 3 rivals, it's 3 civs, including ours.  Secondly, I got an early message saying that one of the civs was destroyed really early on.  Barbs must have blitzed him.  It was me against a civ I never met.  They were kicking my butt in tech and I kept just missing Wonders.  I finally just gave up in the 1300's AD when there were no barb cities to be found.  Can we have another March Madness GOTM please .

How 'bout 6 civs on a duel map?

The early game on large map with
few civs and no raging barbs is pretty
much a builder's game with little combat
until Astronomy. It seemed to be
all about city placement, city screen
micromanagement, and smart use of
slavery and workers to beat the AI with
wonders as opposed to military manuevers.
And we all know wonders= Great people =
tech in this style game.

Not a warmonger playstyle early game..

(nothing wrong with that.. all skills are
good)

It is good to know both sides...

Wow, then the first civ must have died really early.  On the first "ranking" screen, there was me and two unknown civs.  Too bad the third rival didn't get smashed too, that would have been a massive score

It was just so slow and I kept hitting the space bar that I probably missed out on that aspect.  I just wish there was a civ somewhere I could smash early on.

I started this game on Friday and played quite a bit of it (much to the frustration of my wife ). I'm up through about 1900 and I have to agree with Jerm. This is probably the most boring game of civ I've played. hehe.

My update
Spoiler Text Below - Highlight to See Hidden Text
So, I'm at about 1900 A.D. For having a continent almost to myself, I sure didn't take much advantage of it. I was slow to spread out, but built wonders like mad. I'm actually about 10 points behind Mansu Mansa and now at war with the Vikings. I was so slow to expand that Mansu has quite a few cities on my continent.

The English were destroyed very very early on. I found their now-barbarian city in the 1800s.

Unless I go crushing dudes asap, I don't know if I can pull off a high score. I will resume playing this game this next weekend, but I don't expect a super-high score this month.
