Game Closed:

Champion: Konrad von Richtmark - Score: 28,443  Victory: Diplomatic in 1865

Nuclearcow - Score: 17,564  Victory: Cultural in 1932

Dueck - Score: 13,702   Victory: Space Race in 1979

Greetings all... The May GOTM a few days early for your enjoyment (or disappointment, whichever way things go)

This game for the Beyond the Sword CivIV expansion...

Version: 3.13

The map is Large with 5 civs total. (Plenty room in this case is not really a good thing.... muhuhahaha)

Your Civ is the Ottomans:

Settings:

Please Note Above: Large Map, Few Civs, Raging Barbs, Classical Start (No Great Wall), Epic Speed... Wonderful Fun!

Your Starting Tech:

Your Start Position:

You start with 1 settler, 1 worker, 1 scout, 1 archer.

Victory Conditions

All Victories have been enabled, but the only victories that will be accepted are Cultural, Space Race, or Diplomatic.

So, it will be important for you (if you are marching about conquering) to not trigger a military victory by mistake.

Highest Normalized Score in any of the accepted Victory Conditions will be declared BTS GOTM Champion for May.

When you complete the game, take a screenshot of the Victory screen where it lists your leadership counterpart in history. You may post the screenshot in the GOTM thread and then Email your final save (hopefully one just before victory) to me. Saves should be named as follows: [username]May08BTS.CivBeyondSwordSave

The Email address to send the GOTM is my username @1bcciv.com ... Of course, instead of "my username" of course I mean the name I post with here at 1bc.

Submissions will be accepted until the end of May.

Everyone please follow the instructions above: Post your score screenshot here in this thread and email the save to me. This makes it easier to determine how everyone stands and what the current standard is scorewise if I get held up in the verification of save files. Thanks.

What are the rules?
The rules are fairly simple: Play fairly.

This means that you play within the spirit of the competition. As it is a friendly competition, we like to believe that there is no real incentive to cheat - but unfortunately, people do. Any persons found to be cheating will have their games removed, and there is a strong possibility that they will be banned from participating in the future.

Cheating includes (and is not limited to):

  1. Playing the game multiple times and submitting the best effort (or even playing to get knowledge of the map, the replaying then starting the game again).
  2. Using any sort of programs to edit the game or save files.
  3. Altering the XML or using other mods that give you an unfair advantage.
  4. Reloading an earlier save-file and replaying turns in a different way. The only time you may reload a save file is to start a new play session, and you must use the save file from the end of your previous session.

Also, if in doubt, ask. If you think you have found a new loop-hole or exploit, then we strongly suggest that you ask as to its legallity before you use it. The aim of the competition is not to see who can exploit the rules, and as such, we reserve the right to disqualify submissions based on exploits that are discovered later.

Good Luck all...

That's a ludicrously good starting position, do you know that?

To play or not to play... I'm just about to get to world conquest stage in a huge-map Emperor-level marathon-speed game. To finish it, or this... that is the question.

Oooh. Sounds fun. I'll have to wait until next weekend to start it.

but the only victories that will be accepted are Cultural, Space Race, or Diplomatic.
I appreciate the changing up of things a bit. Even the raging barbs (eww!) sounds fun since I rarely touch that option. Sounds like a challenge, especially with those barbarians.

Thanks for changing things up a bit, 'Goose!

Oh my, I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't pointed that out. I guess I'll have to amend my Imperialist ways for a while, but hey, that's the fun of GOTM

Wow, that was unique.

A fight for dear life for the first quarter, followed by a period of stability under barbarian waves, a desperate failed bid for a diplomatic victory due to gross incompetence with the victory type, and then a race to the finish. Near the end, a rival with greater power than I brought a ~90 piece army of colonial era units against fighters/tanks/infantry/mech.inf.

Very messy on all fronts

Had to sit out the last one.. difficulty a bit beyond
my current skill level.

Konrad would be correct.. that is an excellent start
position. Lots of floodplains plus 2 food rescources
plus hills to put mines.

No copper, tho.. but hopefully steel will reveal
itself nearby. I also think horses would help
tremendously with the barbarian influx.

But still.. which victory... will depend on
what lies in the fog..

I started this one last night. Got up to about 600AD so far. Ouch, those barbarians are rough.

Those flood plains are great for hamlets. Too bad the barbarians will just destroy any we build there.

Submission Accepted:

Dueck: Score - 13,702  Victory - Space Race in 1979

Very nice on this map..

Also, Dueck, when I reviewed your file, those barbarian cities in the northern part of the map might be the best organized barb cities I've ever seen. I don't think I've ever seen so many Barb cities with a 12-15+ population. They must have taken out the civ up there rather quickly in your game.

Oh man were they ever. I don't actually recall when the two northern civs were taken over...
Essentially the continent was 40% barbarian in the end, at 1979.

edit: also, my first barbarian paratroopers, and en masse.
